Message from the President

Welcome to the beautiful website of the Gamma Iota chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma! With members coming to Washington University from nearly every one of the United States and various countries around the world, the diversity of interests and talents in our sisters is celebrated. Embracing one another's differences, our commitment to Kappa values and love for the ideals of Kappa Kappa Gamma keep us unified.

The rituals and history of Kappa Kappa Gamma are values of which our chapter is very proud. Several events in particular have come to represent what being a sister in Kappa Kappa Gamma truly means. At Founders' Day brunch, the women of Gamma Iota celebrate the birth of Kappa and commemorate the dedication of our Founders to creating a strong and loyal sisterhood. During Recruitment, active members have a chance to meet the future Kappas who will carry on past traditions. Our most important event is Initiation, when we welcome our new sisters into the chapter and teach them the true meaning behind our traditions.

Every Gamma Iota recognizes that involvement on and off campus during our college career is something that is very important to Kappa. Aside from our wildly successful chapter events like Kappa Karaoke and our annual Walk to the Arch, you will also see Kappas getting involved in every campus-wide event, being one of the top fundraising teams at Relay for Life and consistently winning Most Spirited Greek Team at Dance Marathon. Kappas are the girls flaunting their ROTC gear on the way to class, displaying their talents in one of the numerous performing arts productions, banging hammers out on the Thurtene lot, or leading and taking initiative in Student Union. Kappas are the RA's, the TA's, and the PA's, guiding their peers through the college experience. Kappas are the stars on the soccer team, the biggest smiles on the cheerleading squad, and the sports medicine trainers behind the scenes. Kappas are the girls staying overnight in the art studio, building architecture models for portfolios, and forming midnight study groups in Whispers cafe.

I cannot imagine my college experience without Gamma Iota and am so grateful for everything Kappa has given me. In the past few years, I have learned much about life and myself, and have made friendships that I know will last far beyond my time at Wash U. Whether it's the Thursday nights downtown, themed sisterhood dinners and mocktails, hours spent floating on a raft and sleeping under the stars during Kappa Kampout, early mornings cramming for an exam in Olin library, formals, semiformals and date parties, or late-night Thurtene play rehearsals, I am not exactly sure what has shaped my college years the most. More than anything, I know that Kappa is a great impact on my life, without which I may have never met some of my best friends.

From the roots of Kappa tradition, values and sisterhood, I know that Gamma Iota will continue to thrive in the Greek community.
